Marté Riley

Marté Riley founded No Greater Love with a mission to empower people of all races to process the painful realities of racism and white supremacy within the womb of nature. For over 30 years, she's lived and worked with communities who are trapped in the unconscious fallout of our racially fractured society. Through her personal experiences, she's learned how challenging it can be for people to reclaim their humanity from the cognitive dissonance of their racialized self. Poetry in the Woods

A culturally inclusive retreat for middle and high school students

About the program

Poetry In The Woods is a culturally inclusive half-day retreat for middle school and high school students. The premise of this event is to assist participants in discovering their authentic poetic voice while they spend several hours on a privately-owned property that is surrounded by woods.

In that serene atmosphere, without distractions, the students will enjoy specially curated music and readings of poetry alternating with 20 minute segments of independent observation, self- reflection and writing in the oak and hickory forest. Transportation to and from the property and lunch will be provided.

The Poetry In The Woods facilitators firmly believe that an immersive and mindful experience out in nature fosters a greater freedom in creative expression.
